Prophet Look-Alike

Today I was preparing to cut Jonathan's hair.  I got my hands wet and ran my fingers though his hair making it stick out like a rock star.  He took one look in the mirror and said, "I look like a prophet!"  I don't know how he came up with that, but I thought it was pretty funny.

After I finished cutting and combing his hair, he declared, "Now I look like Jonathan!"

Tuesday's with Dorie: Honey-Wheat Cookies

When I first read this title, I assumed these cookies would be made with wheat flour.  They're not.  They have wheat germ added to the mix and they are rolled in it just before baking.  What is wheat germ you ask?  It's a part of the wheat kernel and it is very rich in vitamins and minerals.  It is also very high in protein. So, needless to say, I was excited to make these cookies since they are somewhat healthy.

I was not disappointed.  They are sweet, chewy and easy to make.  I do have to admit that they taste better the longer they sit.  When these cookies are eaten right away, the honey is a bit over-powering.  As I am finding out, many baked goods taste better once they've had a while to settle--these cookies included.

Thanks, Michelle of Flourchild, for choosing this week's recipe.  It was a hit at our house.  Please visit her blog.  You can find the recipe there or you can buy the book Baking: From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan.  Have a great week!

Tuesday's with Dorie: My Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies are good, but I wouldn't call them the best. I made them before and they turned out thin and fragile. I decided to give them another try just to see if it was something I did wrong. The first batch turned out thin again, so I decided to make the cookies bigger. For some reason that seemed to help. Not the best chocolate chip cookies ever, but still really good. This time around I used a mint chocolate chip because that is all I had. I really liked the minty flavor.  My family must have liked it too because before I knew it, all of the cookies were gone!

Thanks to Kait of Kait's Plate for choosing this week's recipe!

Tuesday's with Dorie: Rick Katz's Brownies For Julia

About a month ago, I was really in the mood for something sweet to eat.  So I pulled out BFMHTY and happened upon this brownie recipe.  It seemed easy enough and I had all the ingredients, so I began.  When the brownies finished baking, I had a thought that I should take a picture--just in case they were someone's pick in the near future, but I dismissed the thought and instead started to eat the brownies.  They were so good that my family and I were too busy eating the brownies to ever stop and take a picture of them.  I had to laugh when I saw them pop up on this month's list of recipes.

If circumstances had been different this weekend, I would have made them again.  So I still don't have a picture, but maybe you'll be interested enough from my review to visit Chocolatechic by Tanya to see her pictures and get the recipe.  The only modification I made was I replaced some of the darker chocolate for milk chocolate.  I'm glad I did.  They turned out great.
