Tuesday's with Dorie: Tarte Tatin

This week is the two year anniversary for the TWD group.  Being a special week, we had a choice of two recipe's to choose: the Tarte Tatin or the Cocoa-Buttermilk Birthday Cake.  After looking at the list of ingredients, I decided to go with the Tart thinking that I had all of the ingredients at home.  I didn't have a puff pastery, but Dorie gives the option of using her yummy pie crust.

I was half way through the recipe when I realized that I didn't have enough butter to complete the recipe.  Darn it!  I had to go to the store anyway.  Of course this recipe is delicious, as most Dorie recipes are, but I would love to try a peach/puff pastry version of this recipe.  I think that is what Dorie used for the picture that is in the book, and boy does it look good!

Here is my version.  The caramelized portion of the dessert ran out a bit after I flipped it over.  Maybe I didn't let it caramelize enough--I don't know.  And I think I had too many apples.  The recipe is not exact, and I don't do well with guessing.

Having said all that,  I am so glad that I have been able to be a part of this group.   I have learned SO much about baking and I have come a long way with my skills.  It's also been a lot of fun!

Please stop by Laurie's blog--the founder of this group--for the recipe, and THANK YOU Laurie, for everything!

Post Script:  After having looked at other blogs, I now know that I did not let the sugar/butter mixture caramelize like it was supposed to.  I was nervous that it would burn.  I was also impatient and wanted to get the recipe finished.  That's why I love this group!  I learn so much every week.  And if I don't learn patience from baking, I don't think I ever will!
