At the Wildseed Farm, we tagged butterfiles. It was as simple as putting a small, round sticker on one of the wings. In the spring, we will track their route on the Internet. Both butterflies were females. Males have a black spot on each wing.
Every year they migrate from Canada to the mountains in Mexico. On their way, they bottleneck in Texas to partake of their favorite food found in abundance here: milkweed.
They can fly up to 50 miles in one day!

Since Fredericksburg was a mere seven miles away from the Wildseed Farm, we had lunch there and explored the German-influenced tourist town.
"Fahrt" in German has a real meaning: a journey, drive, or speed, but of course we Americans find it too funny not to make lame jokes out of it. :)
We had schnitzel for lunch. It tasted good, but not as good as when we ate it in Germany.
